New Brief from PN-3 Policy Impact Center
State Policies to Promote Equity in Healthy Perinatal Outcomes
The Prenatal-to-3 State Policy Roadmap identifies 12 effective policies that improve outcomes for children and their families during pregnancy and early childhood. Today, we release a shareable new brief identifying how three of these policies promote perinatal health equity: expanded income eligibility for Medicaid, higher state minimum wages, and refundable state earned income tax credits.
Additionally, this brief explores other policy solutions that promote overall healthy birth outcomes, but additional research is needed to identify potential impacts on birth equity. Most adverse perinatal health outcomes disproportionately affect families of color, but rigorous research highlights the potential for state policy to be an effective tool to improve birth outcomes and access to quality prenatal care.
