Register for the Beyond Baby’s Highchair: Improving Infant & Toddler Nutrition Security Webinar

February 21, 2024

Join the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for a webinar on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm ET, entitled Beyond Baby’s Highchair: Improving Infant & Toddler Nutrition Security”.

The first 1,000 days of life, the period from pregnancy through a child’s second birthday, represents a critical window for establishing healthy dietary patterns, fostering a responsive feeding environment, and helping to reduce the risk of chronic disease. Human milk feeding and age-appropriate healthy, nutrient-dense complementary foods during this period are key for optimal growth and development. However, the meals available on many babies’ highchair tables are not often ideal, since about 1 in 7 young children in the United States experience nutrition insecurity due to unjust structural barriers that affect historically marginalized communities.

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), with funding support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Nutrition Physical Activity and Obesity (CDC-DNPAO), works alongside local communities across the country to identify and implement strategies to improve infant and toddler nutrition security. In alignment with this mission, NACCHO has co-developed culturally responsive infant and toddler nutrition education materials for 10 communities based on the 2020 – 2025 U.S. Dietary Guidelines. This session will showcase newly released resources for African, Black, Caribbean families, and Spanish-speaking families and discuss the current process for the development of resources for communities in Arabic, Kurdish, Pashto, Dari, Indian, and Punjab-speaking families that will be complete by July 2024. In addition, speakers will provide an overview of recently published resources by national partners related to the first 1,000 days nutrition.
