SNAP is a federal program that provides a monthly food benefit to 41.5 million of our neighbors. Just before the pandemic, 42 percent of SNAP participants were children, including 4.5 million infants and toddlers, as well as those who are pregnant, ages 0 to 4 years old. Families with infants and toddlers, as well as pregnant people, need access to nutrition support programs during the critical years of brain and body development. How is SNAP supported? Through the Farm Bill. The Farm Bill is a comprehensive multi-year bill that addresses nutrition and agricultural policy issues.

It is typically renewed every five years; the current authorization expired on September 30, 2023, but was extended temporarily. Like you, we are concerned about critical nutrition and access to food programs within the bill and will be contacting Members of Congress over the coming months to make sure they don’t leave expectant parents, infants & toddlers behind.
